Arthur Jafa
Untitled, 2019
September 2021
During the design phase of Arthur Jafa’s solo exhibition at Glenstone, I created an installation guide and digital mockup of the large-scale wall grid of Untitled, 2019 which consists of 49 framed prints.
Beginning with an image from the work’s first presentation, I calculated the spacing in between the frames to determine the overall size of dedicated wall space needed to show the work in its given presentation. This calculation was used by the exhibition planning team to explore the options of where in the gallery the work could be placed and if further construction was needed. I used SketchUp to provide an idea of how this additional construction would look within the space and how it would fit the artwork. At the time of installation, I worked as part of the install crew and used the guide I created to lead the team in installing the grid.
