OCTAGON HOUSE
Course:
Advanced 3D Modeling_Spring 2020 | Professor: Lori Choi

Assignment:
Semester-long project beginning with the technical documentation of an existing site to be modeled and used as a generative tool for the creation of a site-specific object. Intended to build experience with representation methods, fabrication, 3D modeling concepts, and using the existing built environment as inspiration for further design projects.
Approach:
The site I chose to work with is a room from The Octagon, which was built in 1799 and was formerly the headquarters of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). Currently owned by the AIA, this building acts as a historic house museum as well as a venue space for exhibits and events highlighting the value of architecture and educating and inspiring its audience.

SITE AS A GENERATIVE TOOL
When exploring The Octagon, I was drawn to this room for the photography exhibition hanging in the space. The contrast of modern photographs set against the historic walls was the inspiration for the site-specific object which I would create. Through a series of transformations and explorations, I designed a modular display installation based off the shapes and dimensions of the frames in the photography exhibition.
