Course:
Lighting Exhibitions_Spring2020 | Professor: Alex Cooper
Assignment: Theoretical exercise to conceive, render, and specify lighting for an environment. Intended to build digital light rendering skills, this assignment focuses on photoshop.

Site History:
This building, first opened in 1925, was designed by famed architect Edward Tilton, most well known for his design of Carnegie libraries nationwide and portions of the Ellis Island immigration station. The library hosts many community-centered programs and features a large, multi-lingual collection.

Design Intent:
My intention with this project is to light the facade of the library in a way that will honor the historic building and make it more inviting in the evening for late-night programming opportunities. I plan to do this using various properties of light and create two different lighting looks.
Site visit: 4.3.2020 @ 11 a.m
Look One: for the library on a regular evening - a way of attracting attention to the building and drawing recognition to the library as a community landmark achieved by using warm white uplighting.
Look Two: for the library on the evening of a special event - a way of signaling to the community that there is a special event and encourage interest and attendance. This look is specifically tailored to an event benefit for the Columbia Heights Education Campus, a local school across the street. The colors used on the building are the school colors and function as a way to draw attention to the event and promote the school itself.
